January 26, 2003:

Voters:

QOTW now has 24 members. I figure if I can get it up to 30, I'll have enough to form a decent mob with which to further my own political agenda. My first priority will be to re-open the observation deck on the Hancock--and then climb all 60 flights of stairs to get up there.

Last week's winner was Alex George, for his quote of "Raiders of the Lost Ark may be one of the greatest things that organized religion ever inspired. I mean, it certainly beats the pro-life movement." Congratulations, kudos, and general compliments to Alex.

New voters: if this is your first time with Quote of the Week, you'll need a quick explanation of the rules. Each Saturday, I send you a list of several quotes compiled from the preceding week. You take this list of quotes and arrange it from your favorite quote to your least favorite. Then email your list back to me. You can include as many or as few of the quotes as you want in your list (for example, you could just list your top choice, or you could list all eight). In your ballot, please just list the names of the nominees, not their quotes too. I calculate the winner using the spectacular Instant Runoff Voting system, which insures that the best quote will be chosen each week (or maybe it just insures that I won't have to break ties; I forget).

And now, THE NOMINEES:
"We were toying with Sons of Pitches, but decided against it. Something about being politically correct. I say a capella need not be correct." -Gwen, on naming her new a capella group
"Harvard rhymes with pretentious." -Ben Miller
"Damn God, ruining the middle ages for everyone." -Alex George
"All my dates have 4 numbers." -Jeff Kaufman
"Every month I say, 'They cannot make an uglier T pass than this.' And every month, they prove me wrong." -Julian Hyde
"I wouldn't mind surfing. Except for the water part." -Dayna
"I want to know how it is that these three guys all have girlfriends, and yet they continually molest each other." -Jenny, on Miller, Roz, and Josh
"I love... ending sentences." -Jenn Orlin

Voting closes at precisely 11:59 pm on Sunday, January 26 (although if you get your ballot to me before I check my mail on Monday, I'll let it slide).

-Ben "This is my descent into insanity and you're all singing along!" Orlin
